The garden will create the opportunity for dialogue about the lack of fresh produce in the area. In San Diego, there is a lack of consciousness as to where the food we eat comes from. The garden project allows the community to follow the journey of a "seed" to the "vegetable" on their plates and their connection to better health. The Linda Vista's rich cultural heritage plays an important part in connecting generations. Elders, many of whom were farmers' in their home country, will have the opportunity to share their culture with the younger generation through farming and food. The Linda Vista Community Garden at Bayside bridges cultural divides and improves the quality of life and health through community outreach and collaboration, hands-on learning through gardening, gardening cultivation, harvesting and healthy food access, and inter-generational celebrations of cultural diversity. The Linda Vista Neighborhood Garden project is part of a coordinated set of initiatives that brings together community garden advocacy and education involving schools (K-12 and university students/programs), farmers' market and quality of life planning.
