We are please to announce that Bayside Community Center will once again be partcipating in this innovative, online fundraiser.  On Tuesday, May 6, 2014, the San Diego Foundation will be hosting giveBIG, an online networking and giving event where Bayside has the opportunity to gain exposure to and start relationships with new donors, and for people in the San Diego region to come together to raise as much money as possible to support our programs in a time-sensitive period. Here’s how the event will work:

  • From midnight - 11:59 p.m. PST on May 6, the public will be able to make a donation on our customized giveBIG event webpage. (Details and a direct link will be shared on April 21, 2014).
  • Donors chose their donation amount, with a minimum gift starting at $25.
  • The Foundation and other sponsors have committed $150,000 to incentivize giving during this event, so that Bayside will receive a proportion of this pool based on how much money we raise during the event. For example, if Bayside raises 5% of the total amount raised during the event, we will receive 5% of the incentive pool.
  • There is no limit as to how much a donor may give to a nonprofit, but only the first $1,000 of every gift will be counted towards incentive pool funds.

Give Local America

The San Diego Foundation’s giveBIG 2014 event will be taking place in conjunction with the larger national day-of-giving event that is also taking place on May 6, Give Local America.

Where people connect and create "a place"

Alive with the voices of young and old, from all corners of the world, Bayside is a place that uniquely represents all of Linda Vista. Long-time residents and those newly arrived speak in many languages: English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Laotian, Hmong, Mixteco, Chinese, Polish, Russian, Portuguese, Italian and more, reminding us that Linda Vista continues to be a place of "America becoming." Bayside re-weaves the fabric of relationships in our community, countering the decline of social connectedness by providing a place where people interact in many different ways. As a result, the center is truly a second home for many people. With hundreds of daily visitors, it's a place full of happy activity and fellowship.

And make the place their own

Working in partnership with our visitors ensures the center continually evolves to meet the changing needs and interest of the community. Bayside encourages and empowers the people who use Bayside to take on leadership roles at the center and beyond, becoming teachers, volunteers, and advocates. By creating opportunities for grassroots community groups, the center facilitates engagement in the civic arena, providing a forum where residents come together to address neighborhood issues and concerns.
