Academic Club
Bayside's Academic Club focuses on helping 2nd and 3rd grade students who have scored below average on the California English Language Development Test (CELDT) gain a solid foundation in the English language. Program coordinators, along with volunteers from the University of San Diego provide homework help, parent workshops, and assistance in reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, writing and test preparation. LocationsThe goal of the Montgomery Intersession Academy (MIA) program is to strengthen the critical skills necessary for successful portfolio completion, while giving student access to a program that develops leadership skills, creates a deep connection to the Linda Vista community through service, and builds confidence in their own ability to create change. The students enrolled in MIA engage in activities that enhance their reading, writing skills, and critical thinking skills. Each student will also participate in creating, leading and executing a community service learning project focused on bettering their community. This program is a collaborative effort with Bayside Community Center, Mission Valley YMCA, University of San Diego and Montgomery Middle School. This 8 week program is offered during the middle school’s winter and spring school breaks.
