Bayside Community Center80th AnniversaryWish ListPlease consider making a donation large or small to help us attain our goal in one or more of the following projects or programs.
Grand Hall Beautification Goal $4,000 One of the many ways that Bayside is able to provide many of its reasonable on-going programs is by the revenue generated from the rental of our Grand Hall to the community. The 2,700 square foot Grand Hall comfortably fits 100 people and is offered to the community at reasonable rental rates for special events. In an effort to increase this revenue, Bayside would like to update the Grand Hall making the space more aesthetically pleasing. Funding will provide new chairs and tables, a fresh coat of paint and a makeover for our kitchen.
Bayside Lobby Beautification Goal $1,500 Providing a comfortable, inviting and safe environment for our community is essential to Bayside guests. Our lobby is in great need of a facelift. Four new computer carts, a badly needed literature rack and a fresh coat of paint would go along way.
Translators and Interpreters Goal $1,000 for 10 hours of professional translating or interpreting Bayside is alive with the sounds of people, young and old, students and seniors, from all corners of the world. Long-time residents and those newly arrived, speak in many languages: English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Laotian, Hmong, Mixteco, Chinese, Polish, Russian, Portuguese, Italian and more, reminding us Linda Vista continues to be a place of "America becoming." Bayside finds that there are many times that our community members need a translator or interpreter to communicate certain needs of health care, fair housing education, foreclosure prevention and advocacy, to name a few. The Linda Vista Community is a very diverse multi-cultural community and there are times we can not fill these translations or interpreter needs with volunteers alone and there are many times where a professional translator or interpreter is needed.
Community Garden Goal $500 for Garden Tools Bayside’s Linda Vista Neighborhood Garden bridges cultural divides and improves the quality of life and health through community outreach and collaboration, hands-on learning through gardening, gardening cultivation, harvesting and healthy food access, and inter-generational celebrations of cultural diversity. The Linda Vista Neighborhood Garden project is part of a coordinated set of initiatives, led by the Linda Vista Collaborative that brings together community garden advocacy and education involving schools (K-12 and university students/programs), farmers' market and quality of life planning.
Dance Classes Goal $300 for 2 ballet barres Bayside’s Ballet Folklorico Group teaches traditional Mexican dances and folklore to children ages 5 - 12. Folklorico is composed of ballet steps and musical pieces reflecting various regions and folk music genres of Mexico. Dance is great for a child’s frame of mind. It is can be a healing way to treat a vast variety of physical and mental health troubles. By teaching youngsters how to dance it gives them physical advantages such as general fitness, discipline, endurance, balance and co-ordination. Dance also provides youth with the opportunity to interact with others, providing social activity and a sense of camaraderie that tends to make a person much more spontaneous, whilst developing their self-esteem.
